This post was transcribed from a Skype Chat, and translated from Afrikaans

Struggling with a Kocos Modem, with an AS230 meter which is daisy chained with RS232 and 3 to 4 or 5 AS230 meters.

What is the correct SMS. Have also tried with a Generic GPRS modem.

Always only reads one meter, although I have activated NET1 and NET2

No, only net1 should be on

net2 is for another physical port on the modem

if the modem can read in one meter, it is fine, don't mess with its settings

at first, only connect one meter

then daisy chain one at a time from there and test every time

are you sure the multi-drop ids are all different?

I have done that also, but don't know how to link it. Each one has its own number.

the SMS docs say:

To program KoCoS AS230 Lite via SMS to connect to Plug and Play Scada for RS232 External Port, add a Generic Active GPRS Modem also (for the other meters):
NET /i:2 /m:1 /h:196.22.139.148 /p:[PORT for Generic Active GPRS Modem] /sid:0 /ito:300 /rto:60 /e:1
SAVE

Where did you read that?

In PNPSCADA where you create the KOCOS modem.

Aha. I see. You do actually use two physical ports.

The modem is in an enclosure at the top of the first AS230, and the modem talks to it over the first port.

It then has a socket on the side for the second port. This is where you plug in the other meters that you daisy chain.

So, do you have two modem entities on PNPSCADA? Namely a KOCOS intelligent active GPRS modem entity, - with only the one meter on, and a Generic Active GPRS modem on which you put the many multi-dropped meters?

Just want to make sure, how does the modem know which modem it is, and when does it read further if there is a fake modem

When you add the meter on pnpscada, you select the modem. When you read the meter, you specify which meter, and it can then look up the correct modem.

on GPRSKOCOS, the modem gives pnpscada the SIM card number, and identifies it accordingly.

on GPRSMAESTRO, each modem has a unique TCP port assigned. The port it connects on, identifies to pnpscada which modem it is.

Ok, I understand, thanks.

But I have just one SIM card and cell phone number, because when I want to add the GPRSMAESTRO modem in pnpscada, it complains that the SIM is already used by another modem.

I'll just implement what you say. I think I understand now.

Yes, it works now. Thanks. Sheesh but I must say, it is very complicated, must be the thing with modems. I'll have to ask the modem people about that....
