If you own your own PNPSCADA server, you must set up the email under Tools->Communication Network to point to your own email server. For instance, you would really like to have customers receive their notifications from your own company, right?
If you have google do your emails for your business, the settings would typically be something like this:

using ssl, port 465
requires authentication
smtp.gmail.com
username
password
and uses Specify Localhost
