I have Elster A1700 meters programmed with TOU registers. Can I bring this into PNPSCADA for the billing?

so, to read existing TOU registers into PNPSCADA, and sync billing with that, follow the following steps:

  1. In the Advanced Meter Setting screen, tick on the 'Billing Registers' to read
  2. Read the meter Billing Registers successfully from the Communication Monitor screen.
  3. Go look at what the existing meter registers are called in View->MeterRegisters. That will help you to identify the registers later.
  4. Go to a TOU calendar with the same calendar settings as that of the meter, and edit it with Edit->Calender Registers.
  5. Add every register you want to bring accross on this screen: Specify the same name as what the column in View->MeterRegisters is called, without the units, in the Meter Register descriptor, and select the correct Rate Period/Season to go with that. Also specify which meter registers are relevant, and which kind of register it is with the dropdown. (Not always needed: also specify the way the billing system will identify the register in the Billing Register Descriptor if relevant - this is specific to the kind of billing sytem you're using). When done filling it in, press the Add New button to add it..
  6. Last step: go back to the Advanced Meter Settings screen on your meter, and associate it with the TOU calendar/s that you just set up, in the Register Calendars listbox. It is a multiple select listbox, so you can select multiple lines by holding in the Ctrl button.
  7. You should now have counting TOU registers on your bills! :-) Run a provisional bill for any time range, and see in your tariff line item description what your register reading was at the end of the billing period. (You may have to call in the meter's billing registers a second time for the values to go through for billing. Or if you have multiple season-rateperiods on the same meter register, you may have to fill in the same billing register descriptors in the fields so that they will appear together on the bill also, e.g. Peak in both high season and low season Billing Register descriptors)

Disclaimer: It goes without saying that you should be careful that the Calendar in PNPSCADA and on your meter must be identical, or else you will get unpredictable results. You don't have to program your meters with TOU registers in order to charge TOU on PNPSCADA. PNPSCADA can even generate TOU registers for you automatically, TOU registers that counts up, without you having meters programmed for TOU registers (just leave the Meter Register decriptor blank in the above procedure). Epecially if you have holidays in your TOU schedule and a lot of meters, it would be looking for trouble to program the TOU calendar on your meters, because you are making extra work for yourself every year, to program the TOU schedule on the meters, and if the tariffs are out late, you will get unpredictable results. Most Meter Manufacturers want you to set the TOU calendar on the meter with their own software, otherwise they can't guarantee the results, and consequently, you cannot currently program the TOU calendar on meters with PNPSCADA. You'll have to go to each individual meter, and program it. You can remotely connect to it via PNPSCADA from your office if your Meter Manufacturer's software supports connecting over TCP/IP, but still, it is a lot of unnecessary work.
