Our normal Active Etherpad and Generic Active GPRS modem Communication Entities only makes a TCP Server Socket available when someone tries to communicate to the meter. With the new Always Connected version of these entities, we maintain the connected channel, and use it when someone tries to communicate to the meter. We also send 1 byte every 30 seconds (Carriage Return); in an effort to keep the connection 'active'.
