The RS232 port number usually changes when you plug it into different USB port, so be sure to always plug it into the same USB port.\

To determine which RS232 port the converter is using in Windows:

  1. go to Control Panel\
  2. go to System\
  3. select Device Manager in the left pane, (or if you are using XP, go to the Hardware tab and select Device Manager)\
  4. expand the entry for Ports in the tree.\

Here you will find a list of all the RS232 ports on your PC.\
As you plug in and remove the USB to RS232 Converter, you will see Device Manager add and remove the port.\
